Evie's First Trip to the Beach

This is the story of little Evie's first trip to the beach. Here are the pictures from our trip to Cannon Beach on the beautiful northern Oregon coast, just west of Portland.

And yes, for those of you wondering, much of the classic movie The Goonies was filmed here. You'll no doubt recognize Haystack Rock from the movie.

Enjoy!

Looking south along Cannon Beach from just outside our hotel room.

Obviously, the weather wasn't exactly all bikinis and sunscreen, but welcome to the Northwest. this is actually the one out of five days we were there when the rain stopped and the sun came out. We had an absolute blast. The big rock you see out in the water is called Haystack Rock, a 235 foot monolith that serves as a really unique bird and marine life sanctuary, not to mention a cool backdrop for pictures.

Evie was so excited every time she saw something new or anytime she saw a dog, she would pull us around, perhaps because we were too slow for her. She still isn't all that steady when walking yet, so she wouldn't walk anywhere without holding onto us. But once we had her hand, she was off to the races.

Evie loved going out into the water, so long as someone was holding her. With the water at a balmy 47 degrees, Mommy wouldn't get wet, so Daddy had to take one for the team.

Ah yes, Evie and her dogs. She didn'y let a single dog, big or small, walk by on the beach without petting it, smiling, giggling, and even a pull or two on an ear. Even when a bigger dog knocked her down (which happened twice), she was right back up and laughing some more.

Want to take a wild guess as to who was in charge?

After a bath, lunch and a nice nap, it was time to go out and hit the scene again. We went to a local community park, and Evie tried out the swings for the first time. We couldn't get her out of them without a fuss (although we went out for ice cream afterwards, and that made her happy again).
